Great alternative for the Hartford Hospital crowd. Better than the cafe and Au Bon Pain options at the HH. It's tucked away in the basement of the Retreat Ave office and kind of difficult to find but they make really quality lunch foods. I love their Buffalo Chicken Wraps. They make all their own desserts too which are a great value.
The ladies of the retreat sandwich shop are pretty cool. Always worried about us being overworked and one time they gave me a big ass cookie. Warm and gooey. Big fan of this place. -

This literally one of the smallest spots but one of the few areas where you can grab a quick bite. This is a hole in the wall kind of place so no extra frills and thrills. It looks like it is run by a couple, husband cooks while the wife/partner handles all the extras from running the register to smoothie making. Smoothie isn't on the menu but she makes them fresh. We got four sandwiches to go which all came with your choice of chips. It was lunch time but they were quick.
The 919 burger was excellent and messy, the Angry Rosa was really good, California club and the steak and cheese was ok. The steak and cheese could have been bigger, it felt skimpy compared to other sandwiches.
The place seems to have a lot of regulars and seems busy during the peak times. Overall good spot and experience. -

The retreat sandwich shop is characterized primarily by a hole in the wall with good prices with good quality food. The food is pretty decent, don't expect Michelin star level food, but it matches the prices, and Jerry is definitely a genial guy. It is frequently filled with regulars, and construction staff, And that usually tends to be a sign of people who know decent food for good prices.

Spent a couple days at Hartford Hospital and got tired of Au Bon Pain real quick. Ventured out onto Retreat Ave to find this hidden sandwich shop. It's in the basement of 100 Retreat Ave. I got a buffalo chicken wrap and a steak and cheese wrap. Wouldn't get the buffalo again. The steak and cheese was quite good, extra cheesy.

Friday is the day to be here. Eggs Benedict is the special and it is amazing! The home fries are excellent also. The ambiance is small and very informal. 3 tables and a 6 seater counter.
